James has been an active member of the Louisiana Restaurant Association since 2000 and served as Chapter President in 2006 as well as on the Executive Board of the State until 2013. J ames has been involved in many organizations throughout our community. The first location was on Sherwood Forest Blvd and then relocated to Acadian Thruway in 2006. James worked at the New Orleans Hilton Riverside in Food and Beverage before leaving to open Mestizo Restaurant in 1999. James graduated from LSU with a degree in Marketing. ​ James was born and raised in Baton Rouge and raised in his family restaurant, Carlos Mexican Restaurant. Mestizo is a Spanish word that means “of mixed blood” and is used to describe the cuisine of his heritage of Mexican and Louisiana-French. James is a third-generation restaurateur that was born and raised in Baton Rouge. I don’t really feel like a millionaire right now, but I get used to the good things very, very fast.James Urdiales is the creative chef/owner of Mestizo Louisiana Mexican Restaurant for the past 23 years.
